Woman's Digest.

A Feminist Periodical
From The 1930s

[Stowe, Harriet Beecher]. [From the front cover:] Woman’s Digest/June 1936. [New York/101 Hudson Street: Women’s Digest, June 1936].

8vo.; green wrappers, glued, printed in dark green and red; fine.

The June 1936 issue of this monthly publication, billed as “The Feminine World in Review.” Contains a variety of articles on such topics as international feminism (“Guatemala Greeting;” and “Conversation in the Antilles”); literary contributions; and articles on domestic feminist issues (“Why A Girl Is Fired;” “Women Behind Bars;” and “There’s Work To Do.”) Includes contributions by Kathleen Norris and Gladys Cooper and a tribute to Harriet Beecher Stowe on the rear wrapper.

When Woman’s Digest was conceived, we tried to determine what ten subjects most urgently concerned modern women.

We addressed this question [to our readers]….Their choice, averaged in order of importance, is given here:

Beauty
Affection and Love
Economic security
Youth
Health
Children
Fashions
The Home
The world around us
Recreation

….We plan to build Woman’s Digest on a thorough knowledge of the chosen subjects. We plan to make of Woman’s Digest a mirror that will reflect clearly from month to month those interests that are foremost to women.
