Swieto robotnicze I-go Maja.

[Luxemburg, Rosa]. Święto robotnicze 1-go Maja. [Krakow], Czerwony Sztandar, 1905.

12mo.; paper wrappers, fragile; light wear to spine.

This is the very rare first edition of the mayday appeal to the workers in revolutionary Poland, printed abroad on thin paper to be smuggled and distributed among the Polish proletariat. This is an official publication of Luxemburg’s party S.D.K.P.i.L. and sums up the aims of the party during the 1905 revolution; toppling of the Tsarist system, freedom of assembly, the right to strike, freedom of expression in word and print, and finally, the erection of a peoples republic (republika ludowa). Among the programmatic points the pamphlet gives details of direct actions and the movement of Tsarist troops.

Żanna Kormanowa, Materiały do bibliografii druków socjalistycznych, p. 203; we were unable to locate three other copies, in the German Federal Archive (a copy probably confiscated by the German police), International Institute of Social History and in the Polish National Library.
