Women and Public Housekeeping.

Addams, Jane. Small handbill: "Women and Public Housekeeping.” New York City: National American Woman Suffrage Association, [c. 1912-1917].

Small handbill: 7 x 6"; printed black on off-white stock; some creasing and browning (to upper left corner and lower right corner); a bit of shallow chipping along the right margin (not affecting text); about very good.

Addams points out that women bring a different vantage to public affairs. The lack of the franchise has removed women from what, in fact, has been a traditional responsibility (i.e., the health of the community). She presses the logical effect of woman's sphere being strictly limited to her own home and family: "Is it quite public spirited for woman to say, 'We will take care of these affairs so long as they stay in our own houses…."
