As complete a set as one could hope for, containing what is presumed to be every still taken from this pre-Code comedy based don Julian Thompson's 1924 play, set in 800 B.C. in Pontus, the land of the Amazons.
Gender roles and natures are completely reversed, and women are the strong sex who support the men and fight to protect them. Sapiens (Truex) is the husband of Queen Hippolyta (Marjorie Rambeau) and a lone advocate for men's rights who eventually betrays the women into the hands of invading greeks.
Thompson's play was popular and was adapted as a stage play in 1932 starring Katharine Hepburn, as well as a 1942 Broadway musical, under the title By Jupiter.
Levien shared screen credit with Ralph Spence. The film was directed by Walter Lang (also with a writing credit). The photos were taken by Anthony Urgrin.
