An ordained Methodist minister, Anna Howard Shaw made her career in the woman suffrage movement beginning in 1885. A very gifted orator, the dynamic Shaw traveled tirelessly throughout the country, speaking eloquently and compellingly for woman suffrage, until her death in 1919. From 1892 to 1904, she was vice-president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA), and from 1904 to 1915, she was NAWSA's president. Shaw was a close friend of Susan B. Anthony's, and she and Anthony's niece, Lucy, became life companions, living together for thirty years.

This document is a handwritten note regarding expenses incurred at the 29th Annual Convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, held in Des Moines, lowa, from January 26-29, 1897. Shaw has written, “Expenses to Convention Des Moines Twenty 67/100 dollars," and has signed, “Anna H. Shaw," adding the date, "Jan 30, 1897.”

The document is in very good condition.
