Proceedings of the National Women's Rights Convention Held at Cleveland, Ohio
Minutes Of The
Third National Women’s Rights Convention
[Meetings]. (Anthony, Susan B.). Proceedings of the National Women’s Rights Convention Held At Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 5th, 6th, and 7th, 1853. Cleveland: Gray, Beardsley, Spear, & Co., 1854.
Thick 8vo.; edges of several pages lightly water-stained; brown printed wrappers, lightly used, few small unobtrusive chips; University of Alabama library label inside the cover, and a library number lightly penned on the cover. Housed in a specially made cloth folding box.
First and only edition of the proceedings of one of the earliest national women’s rights conferences ever held in the U.S. The meeting was called by Lucretia Mott; participants included Antoinette Brown, Frances Gage, Caroline Severance, Lucy Stone, William Lloyd Garrison, and Susan B. Anthony. Stone organized the first national U.S. women’s rights convention, held in 1850 in Worcester, Mass. This riveting document, nearly 200 pages in total, includes testimony from notable participants, resolutions, committee reports, and other business. An important and fragile relic from the inaugural phase of the modern women’s rights movement.
