Thick 8vo, Vol. II, vii, 952; Vol. III, xvi, 1013; Vol. IV, lii, 1144; dark maroon binding, thick blank rules framed an elaborate cartouche at the front panel; gold stamping at the spine. Volume IV, lighter maroon binding; thick blind rule frame front and rear covers. Gilt lettering at spines of Volumes I through III faded to copper (suggesting they were stamped with “Dutch gilt”). Volume I, spine rebacked and professionally restored with loss of “V” from “Vol.), “Rochester” and “Susan B. Ant” from “Rochester, NY” and “Susan B. Anthony”; early leaves reattached; four pieces of tape to inscribed leaf. Volume IV, inscribed leaf professionally repaired; tape at leaf and remnants of removed tape. All volumes sound and clean. Generally very good.
Volume I, inscribed at the front blank: To / Miss Clara Elizabeth Luther [underlined] / From her father’s cousin — / And her sincere friend / Susan B. Anthony / Rochester - N.Y. / April 16/95 / And with the hope that / your marriage relations may / be after the rule laid down by our / venerated Lucretia Mott [underlined] of / Philadelphia Pa - The Quaker preacher - / that is — may your / Dependence be mutual [underlined], / your / Independence equal [underlined], and your / Obligations reciprocal [both words underlined]!! / S.B.A.”
Volume II, inscribed at the front blank: Miss Clara Elizabeth Luther / Kingston — Ulster Co., N.Y. / With the hope that added / happiness may be hers from this / eventful day on — from her / Sincere friend & Cousin / Susan B. Anthony / Rochester, N.Y. / april 16, 1895 — [underscored].

Volume IV, inscribed at the front blank (detached, with tape to the front free endpaper): Mrs. Nana [?] Luther Walker / Reeds Ferry - N.
