National League of Women Voters Pennsylvania League of Women Voters What They Are Why They Are How They Propose To Work" leaflet.

Leaflet: National League of Women Voters Pennsylvania League of Women Voters WHAT THEY ARE WHY THEY ARE HOW THEY PROPOSE TO WORK. [Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania League of Women Voters, 1921].

Leaflet: 6" x 9"; printed both sides on white stock; folded twice; 2" long closed tear at top margin (not affecting text); staining along right margin at reverse; good.

At the head of the leaflet is written in ink (presumably in the hand of Maud Rice Stuckert), "You are invited to the Co[unty] Mtg. of the League at Arcade Hall Tuesday Feb. 15 at 2:15.” At the reverse, Mrs. Stuckert has written in the name of Mrs. Helen P. Fretz, Newtown as the appropriate person to whom membership dues. The leaflet describes the purpose of the National League of Women Voters and of the Pennsylvania affiliate. It emphasizes that women have different political agendas than men and the League is intent on bringing to bear the weight of women voters on legislators to create and pass bills to advance the reforms they seek. The state affiliate, for instance, supports five specific bills which it wishes the Pennsylvania legislature to adopt, including more monies for public school teachers and a call for a constitutional convention. Lastly, the leaflet reminds women that the "most effective work that any woman can do is in her immediate community. An organization of women for this purpose can accomplish much more than any individual…" A blank membership form is printed at the bottom of the leaflet.
