LETTER: Autograph letter signed to Janet Penrose Ward
Autograph Letter Signed ('M. G. Fawcett') to the wife, nie Janet Penrose Ward, of the historian George Macaulay Trevelyan (1876-1962).
24 January 1928; 2 Gower Street, London W.C.1. 8vo, 1 p. With the address, with stamp and postmark, on the reverse. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Addressed (significantly, considering Fawcett's struggle for women's rights) to Janet Penrose Trevelyan as an appendage of her husband: 'Mrs. G. M. Trevelyan | Garden Corner | New Road | Cambridge'. Gives details of a coming trip to Palestine with her sister. She will not be able to accept Mrs Trevelyan's 'kind invitation to your meeting for the Play Centres', as 'On February 23rd I expect to be sailing on the sea somewhere between Plymouth & Port-Said'. In the past she has only been 'an irregular supporter' of Mrs Trevelyan's 'fine work for London Children', but she now asks to be put down for an annual subscription. 'I hope you will get to love Cambridge as much as I did'.
