Ethics of Judaism, The. 2 vols.
[Judaica] Lazarus, M., Ph.D. The Ethics of Judaism. Translated from German by Henrietta Szold. In Four Parts. Part One and Part Two. Philadelphia: The Jewish Publication Society of America, 1900, 1901.
2 vols.; 8vo.; vol. I hinges tender; vol. II hinges cracked at front endpapers; brown cloth; spines stamped in gilt.
First edition of Lazarus’s research in ethics within the context of Jewish culture. This edition is the first of what would eventually become two volumes of The Ethics of Judaism. Upon Lazarus’s death in 1903, the second volume, which he alludes to in the preface, had not been published. Left with a near-complete manuscript of the second volume, editors eventually paid tribute to the author by publishing the second volume under the same name, The Ethics of Judaism, in 1911.
