LETTER: Autograph letter signed, describing her aims in writing.

22 February [no year, but on paper watermarked 1862]; 10 Cambridge Terrace, Hastings. 16mo, 2 pp. Bifolium. Seventeen lines of text. Clear and complete. On aged, grubby paper. She 'cheerfully' complies with the request for an autograph, and is 'obliged by your telling me that you have spent happy hours over my books'. Her 'chief aim' in writing them 'was to give pleasure and to lead to the study of Nature'. She hopes that her readers will 'feel truly the enjoyment in the perusal of my volumes, that I felt in writing them'.
