Cannibal Galaxy, The.

With An Enlightening Inscription

Ozick, Cynthia. The Cannibal Galaxy. New York: Knopf, 1983.

8vo.; white printed wrappers.

Uncorrected proofs of Ozick’s fictional examination of intellectualism and class divisions in America. A presentation copy, inscribed with significant annotation: A pedagogical word. A didactic novel. But that novel is not? Looking lightly just now (April 1994) at what was written so long ago, I all at once remember that school—Agnes’s School—in Forster’s The Long Journey, & wonder whether a little of that seeped into Brill’s school. The mind is like a firefly: the little free light flickers first here, then over there—& who knows where, finally, the little errant light will light?/ With good wishes to the Reader, Cynthia Ozick.
