This book once belonged to the daughter of the Ba’al Shem of Michelstadt (Seckel Wormser, b. 1768 I Michelstadt in Hessen 6.1847). Wormser was formerly schooled in the yeshivah of Nathan Adler where he adopted a strict Hasidic way of life as well as extreme vegetarianism and a deeply mystical devotion to the Kabbalah. He was reputed to have great occult powers which probably grew out of his skill in healing people (both physically and psychologically) with natural remedies and herbs. He was particularly successful with the mentally ill. Among the Jews of Southern Germany many traditions survived regarding his miraculous cures and other feats. In 1825 his house and large library were destroyed by fire, perhaps this volume escaped that inferno.

Accompanied by 1789 edition in original cloth and boards.
