True History of Some of the Pioneers of Colorado.

Shaw, Louella. True History of Some of the Pioneers of Colorado. Hotchkiss, CO: W.S. Coburn, John Patterson and A.K. Shaw, 1909.

8vo.; hinges reinforced with cloth tape; printed slate grey wrappers, illustrated with portraits, including a frontispiece of the author; a lovely copy, virtually as new.

First edition of this privately printed history of early Colorado. A precocious 23 year old, Shaw descended from two families who settled in the Territory in the early 1850s. Her pride in her relations’ roles in developing the West is somewhat (at least to a modern reader) skewed by her enthusiasm for their equally successful destruction and banishment of the indigenous Indian tribes.

The flawless condition of this copy suggests that it might have been part of a remainder issue or a stash that didn’t circulate at the time of publications.
