The hearing prints statements by Congressman Edward T. Taylor (see #39 below), Jane Addams, Leonora O’Reilly, Ida Husted Harper, and James L. Laidlow (among others). The speakers, drawn for New York, Illinois, Washington, DC., Colorado, Oregon, etc., represent diverse geographic regions of the United States. They present differing arguments, facts and statistics on behalf of woman suffrage and varying opinions on whether federal suffrage should be obtained through a federal amendment or by state by state referendums and constitutional conventions. The final portion of the hearing records anti-suffrage sentiments. One of the most substantial and informative hearings on the issue. Franklin, p. 169 (Three stars.
