[Printed heading[ "Sunday Night", 36 Great James Street, Bedford Row, [London], WC1. [1931?]

Four pages, 12mo, very good condition.

She makes complimentary remarks about Minney's book on Clive (published 1931), "as interesting as a good novel - and a piece of very sound scholarship as well. She appends a few "sentences for quotation as [he] asked [her]. They are very sincerely meant", but include honestly meant criticisms. For example, she feels his hero-worship of Clive, needing "a more modern note of criticism of 'nabob imperialism'" to inoprove the book. "Clive certainly founded the Indian Empire on its broadest basis. He also bequeathed us a tradition which is responsible for amy of the troubles of 1930 [...]" Her signature is followed by three suggested "quotes", eg. "Mr MInney has made 18th century India as 'alive' as this morning's news".
