ALS, "Abigail Adams," to "Dear Sir," Quincy, March 10th, 1816.
8vo.; one leaf; one page.
Adams writes to a friend and Washington official for news pertaining her husband, John Adams, enclosing a letter from their son to John. She further asks for "the reason why Mr. Adams is continued in so unpleasant a situation after his repeated request to be informed upon the subject?":
"Mr. Monroe has served abroad & must know how expensive a foreign mission is, and the cash and expenses Mr. A. had encountered in his quitting St. Petersburgh upon the negotiation for peace. But his own letter will better explain the subject than I can.
"I consider you as a son and write to you with the same freedom. In how many delightful quo character do I contemplate your ever lamented father, his healing art, I have often experience, united with the soothing balm of sympathy, and kindness.
"My compliments to Mrs. (?)sh-nothing formal and cold. My love to her, how many pretty children have you? Are they as handsome as their mother was when I once saw her at Washington?
"Ever your friend…"
