LETTERS: Three ALS to Hood, and related material, re Scottish Women's First-Aid Corps.
Three Letters to Patuffa Hood, nie Kennedy-Fraser, from Mary E. Macmillan, Hon. Commandant (two ALsS) and Florence Dodson, Hon. Secretary (One TLS)
6 Sept. and 5 Oct.1934 (ALsS) and no date (TLS). A. Mary E. Macmillan, 2 ALsS, 2pp., 8vo, foxed but legible, and 4pp., 12mo: (6 Sept.)
She gives a brief history of the Corps from its beginnings in 1909, including her, and others, roles. "... and I started it , & in 1931 Miss Maule & a Mrs Dodson carried on when we others resigned & also killed it." She can get the information Patuffa wants from the person who is winding up the concern, and discusses her role (section commander) and tewh VAD. She will try to get Patuffa the history of the Corps; (5 Oct.) She is getting a corps list for Patuffa, fears that the "papers & card index [...] were burned by the people who ran the Corps for two years". Given paperwork she could have told Patauffa her "attendances". In a postscript she retails the history of the Corps and her role in it. ("7000 women passed through my hands & at the beginning of the War we had First Aid & sick nursing classes every day" She discusses resources, achievement, good training for nurses who were "trumps during the war, Italy Serbia & India".
With undated recruiting letter from Florence Dodson, hon. sec., Scottish Women's First-Aid Corps, one page, 8vo, discussing the re-organisation, added skills including for motor accidents, a lecture course on the use of herbs. They hope the recipient will join.
Also with, two Class Certificate of Proficiency (different skills), St Andrews Ambulance Association, for Miss P. Kennedy Fraser, 23 March 1911.
