LETTER: ALS to Mr. and Mrs. Marchant.
Thanking them for the proofs of the pamphlet above and stating that she is unable to provide a preface to it but enclosing a "Letter" to him which could be used as a Preface. "I have had a long and very serious illness, and at the same time great domestic sorrows...I am 74 years of age, and my powers have failed a good deal. I really feel quite unable to write a preface at all worthy to be placed at the head of your pamphlet. All I can do is to write you a letter, which you are at liberty to place at the head or in any part of the publication…We must all in turn submit to...illness or age and be content to pass away and be forgotten. God's work will continue."
