PHOTOGRAPHS: Collection of five Roosevelt family photographs, all featuring Eleanor, from the files of Sarah Roosevelt; given to I Borken, S.R.'s biographer.

Roosevelt, Eleanor. A Small Archive of Vintage Family Photographs, from the files of Sara Roosevelt, with explanatory typed notes c. 1934 affixed to all but one by Sara’s early biographer, Isabella Bunker. All housed in a specially made cloth slipcase.

Includes FDR and Eleanor’s engagement photo (8 x 6”); “family group about 15 or 16 years ago [i.e. c. 1918-19]” (5 ¾ x 4 ½”); a “group of notables at Hyde Park including the McAdoos, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Homer Cummings, Josphus Daniels, etc., some time before the house was remodeled, which was about 12 year ago [i.e. c. 1922]” (8 x 6”); Anna Roosevelt, approximately age 8 (6 x 10”); Eleanor Roosevelt (unlabeled by Bunker), with the stamp of the “Wide World Studio” on the verso (8 x 10”). The survival of these images outside of either family hands or an institution is attributable to the genuine intimacy Mrs. Bunker achieved with the prickly Mrs. Roosevelt.
