A note of gratitude signed by many key members of the suffrage movement, addressed to Massachusetts Senator Philip J. Tripp following his support of the women’s movement. The letter reads, in full:
The Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Woman Suffrage Association, at their regular meeting, held Friday, March 3d, passed a unanimous vote of thanks to those members of the Senate, who, at four sessions of that honorable body, so ably advocated and supported the bill for Municipal Suffrage for Women.
In November 1876, the National Woman Suffrage Association’s would formally appeal for a suffrage amendment. Leading up to this Congressional pressure, several individual Congressman corresponded with suffragettes in support of the women’s movement, despite the “Anthony Amendment” not receiving an official Congressional introduction until 1878.
