Small broadside: 5-15/16 x 7", printed black on beige stock. Paper is brittle with 2" closed tear along a center fold; some speckling. Very good. The broadside announces that Dr. Anna Howard Shaw (Chairman of the Woman's Advisory Committee of the Council of National Defense) with Judge Wm. H. Wadhams will speak on Sunday, October 28th. Anna Howard Shaw's powers of oratory had brought her to the attention of Susan B. Anthony when Shaw was a young woman. Anthony recruited Anna Howard Shaw to the cause of woman suffrage and for three decades she spoke eloquently on its behalf. Though her tenure as President of the NAWSA was troubled, her dedication to suffrage remained undiminished as this speaking engagement documents. The fact that she was to speak so shortly before the important November 6th vote suggests that even at the age of seventy, Shaw continued to be one of suffrage's most persuasive and powerful proponents.
