A Late Pamphlet On Contraception
Edited By Sanger

Sanger, Margaret, ed. Biological and Medical Aspects of Contraception. Papers and Discussions Presented at the American Conference on Birth Control and National Recovery at the Mayflower, Washington, D.C., January 15, 16, 17, 1934. Washington, D.C.: National Committee on Federal Legislation for Birth Control, Inc./Mrs. Margaret Sanger, President, (1934).

8vo.; title page lightly foxed; green printed wrappers; glued; spine and edges darkened.

First edition of a mid-career pamphlet on birth control edited by Sanger. A printed record of conference proceedings, including over 20 papers by medical doctors on clinical aspects of contraception, gynecology, and abortion. With a foreword by Sanger at the front of the pamphlet and a printed resolution proclaiming contraception a medical, and not a governmental, ethical or religious issue, at rear. Sanger’s foreword reads as follows:

These papers were presented at the American Conference on Birth Control and National
Recovery by experts in the field of Biology and Medicine. The Conference took no action
whatsoever on any method, and the Committee On Federal Legislation for Birth Control
presents these papers as they were given at the Conference, realizing that several of them
are controversial, but nevertheless we feel that to the medical profession they will contain
much that is of interest as well as stimulating to further research. (p. 1)

A short but significant document of interest to scholars of women’s health and birth control legislation.
