LETTER: ALS to an editor.
Harriet T. Comstock to Henry Goddard Leach, Editor of The Forum
Comstock, Harriet T. Autograph letter signed “Harriet T. Comstock” to “the Editor of the Forum, Mr. [Henry Goddard] Leach.” New York: N.D. ca. 1915]; two leaves; rectos only in black ink; creased where folded; rust stains from a paper clip; mild soiling; minor edgewear.
Author Harriet Comstock writes Henry Goddard Leach, editor of The Forum, voicing her thoughts on, among other politically-charged topics, the relationships between nations and war psychology: “Personally I think the relation existing between England and the United States is similar to that of children and parents…[The] child has grown up; established its own house and interests, -- but I hope there will always be… the recognition of a tie that cannot be broken.”
On war propaganda, she writes:
I wish it were possible to pass a law that would make it as great a crime, in a time of peace, to create a war psychology as it is to create peace ideals in war time…ministers and so-called orators who, today, are noisily mouthing war propaganda of fear-rousing nonsense, are pests and dangerous citizens.
