Anthony, Susan B. Autograph Letter Signed “Susan B. Anthony” to “My Dear Young Friend.” New York. 01/25/1870 one leaf; 8 x 10 inches; bifolium, printed on three sides with autograph notes to one; mild soiling and general wear; creased where folded from mail.

Anthony composes a note on the blank side of a National Women’s Suffrage Association pamphlet to “My Dear Young Friend,” with a recruitment pitch for becoming involved in the women’s movement, encouraging the recipient to coordinate her own events, prompt discussions, and promote subscription to “The Revolution,” the weekly newsletter of the NWSA. Anthony’s note reads, in full:

My Dear Young Friend, Help to roll on the hall – Organize a woman suffrage society – hold meetings – discuss woman suffrage – Send for tracks to distribute – get up a large club of subscribers for “The Revolution” – work work – is the order of today [?] Susan B. Anthony.

The NWSA pamphlet upon which Anthony’s note is written also includes a printed letter “To Our Friends” on the importance of contribution by group president Elizabeth Cady Stanton; printed on the recto is the Association’s constitution, a listing of officers (with Anthony appearing on the “Executive Committee,” and the Association’s “Plan of Organization.”
