First edition of the first major posthumous publication. Wilson A48a. Edited and introduced by Stein’s literary executor Carl Van Vechten, whose portrait of Stein in Taos, New Mexico, appears in the rear. In addition to that image, over two decades Van Vechten photographed Stein and Toklas dozens of times, creating the canonical images of the pair that are staples of popular culture, especially in the gay community.
Not to be confused with the similarly titled 1932 Plain Edition Operas and Plays, which prints an overlapping but different selection of works.
