Books in General, on Virginia Woolf.

Sackville-West on Virginia Woolf

Sackville-West, Vita. Books In General. July 11, 1932.

4 leaves of foolscap, rectos and versos.

Together with:

Sackville-West, Vita. Books In General. October 17, 1932.

6 leaves of foolscap, rectos only.

Working drafts for two of Vita’s book columns including as their subject works by Woolf: A Letter to a Young Poet and The Common Reader. Vita’s working practice was to use the rectos for composition, and the facing versos for additional notes and inserted text, which in the present examples she has done only in the earlier of the two. For the second of the two, her commentary of The Common Reader begins on page 5; continues, supposedly, through a missing page 6, and concludes on page 7.
