Roses With and Without Thorns. All Faithfulls in 2 large slipcases.
By Emily Faithfull’s Sister,
Also Her Illustrator
[Faithfull, Emily]. Fleet, Esther Faithfull. Roses With and Without Thorns. London: Marcus Ward & Co., [1874].
12mo; elaborate mounted colored lithographic frontispiece; four similar plates throughout, and one mounted on the upper panel; brown cloth, elaborately stamped in blind and gilt; hinges slightly tender; else fine.
First edition of this fragile and charming fiction work for children, composed and illustrated by Esther Faithfull Fleet. Emily Faithfull’s talented sister would also work with her publisher-sister as illustrator, most laudably on Te Deum Laudamus. Though this is not an Emily Faithfull publication it fits into her canon through her blood ties and because of her later collaborations with her sister. Scarce.
The ten Emily Faithfull volumes comprising this archive are housed in two specially made cloth slipcases.
