Report of the President of the Minnesota Magdalen Society to the Legislature of 1875.
Johnston, Mrs. D.S.B. Report of the President of the Minnesota Magdalen Society to the Legislature of 1875. St. Paul: Pioneer Company Print, 1875, 500 copies ordered by the Minnesota Senate.
8 p. “A year ago last August, five persons belonging to houses of ill fame came to the 'Women's Christian Association of this city, asking help to turn from their lives of shame. The Association at once published a call for the Christian women of St. Paul to meet...for the purpose of establishing a Christian Home for the reformation of fallen women. The result of this meeting was the organization of the Magdalen Society of Minnesota...."
The report gives some heartbreaking (and heartwarming) stories of the women whom the society has helped, tells of the organization's hardships in furnishing, maintaining, and operating the home, includes the treasurer's report, and asks for additional public funds.
