12mo.; with two pages of ads in the rear; wood-engraved illustrations throughout; endpapers slightly soiled; original roan-backed boards, stamped in gilt on the spine; spine worn. In a specially made cloth slipcase.
A later edition. The first edition appeared in 1788 (London: J. Johnson), with three more editions and numerous translations published in the 1790s. The 1791 edition included plates by William Blake. The illustrations in this volume were new to this edition, but the artist is uncredited. This copy contains two gift inscriptions on the front endpapers. The first, in brown ink on the front pastedown, reads “C.F.L. given by her office affeate [sic] Nurse Thompson” and the second, in black ink, opposite the half-title and bleeding through to the front endpaper, reads “C.A. Storferd given to her by her dear sister E.S.” Windle A3k; CBEL II, 1255.
