First edition, deluxe issue, 450 copies specially bound and distributed by Viking to friends of the firm as their 1964 holiday gift; the trade issue was bound differently and issued in a printed dust-jacket. A long essay on a series of trials held in London for English Nazi sympathizers. Most of the text was serialized in The New Yorker, West’s primary American magazine outlet in the 1940s and 50s. The book is dedicated “To the Memory of Harold Ross, first editor of The New Yorker.”
