ΒΆ A brochure for a critically acclaimed and pioneering exhibition of over 60 African-American artists held in 1935 at the Harlem Y.W.C.A. The text includes a brief foreword by "The Committee" that expresses their desire that the exhibit "will serve to create a greater interest on the part of the community in the endeavors of young Negro men and women who seek to live up to the artistic traditions of their race . . ." The members of the Harlem Art Committee are listed on the third page, followed by the list of approximately 70 sponsors, and on page four are the names of the contributing artists and collections represented. This event precedes by several months the exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, African Negro Art, held in November and December of the same year. Three creases from folding; very good copy.
