First English edition of Hellman’s controversial memoir of the McCarthy Era and her own involvement with it. A presentation copy, inscribed on the front endpaper: For Eric with warmest regards and the hope of seeing him soon again. Lillian Nov 1976. Eric Lester was the proprietor of the Portal Gallery in London. Cameron’s introduction, which provides both a snapshot of Hellman and background into the dynamics of American politics in the ’50s, was written especially for this English edition.
