The Science of Society. No. 1. The True Constitution of Government.

Sarah E. Holmes, Publisher, Boston, MA, 1888. New Edition; see Holmes’s (or Andrews’s?) Explanatory note.

Sarah Holmes published this reprint of Andrews master plan for a new society. Andrews had written this in 1851 and an "Explanatory" at the beginning of this edition asserts that the author "earnestly desired its republication." Included in the Appendix of this edition is a review of Warren's EQUITABLE COMMERCE, by George Ripley published in the New York "Tribune" and Andrews reply. Sarah E. Holmes, writing as "Zelm," was a radical feminist who went beyond the standard advocation of abolition of marriage. She advocated economic independence for women was the only avenue to true freedom. She seems to have published (as well as written) several anarchistic tracts in the late 1880's -- around the time that feminist writers were appearing with greater infrequency in "Liberty". Her own publications and writings, much like those another feminist publisher, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, had great philosophical impact on 20th century feminists. Presley, S. BENJAMIN R. TUCKER AND THE CHAMPIONS OF LIBERTY. Sullivan, M. in "Fragments", January-March 1981.
