Tight, nice first edition. Laid in is a "With the Compliments of the Author" card and a Typed Note Signed from Jean Jollett at Simon and Schuster, transmitting this copy and apologizing for a mixup. A fine presentation copy, bearing a bold inscription from the author in black fineline on the half-title page: "For Esther / For Archie / with love / from / tereska."

ARCHIE LIEBERMAN (born 1926) is a noted Chicago photographer and author of Farm Boy -- and a good friend of Torres and her husband, novelist Meyer Levin (1905-81). Torres (born 1924) is best known for her first book, the novel Women's Barracks (1951) based on her time as a Free French refugee in London, which became a cult classic considered by some a Lesbian pulp novel and sold millions of copies.
