Folio; 28 pp; folded newsprint tabloid; color wraps.
Already among the most politically radical of New York’s underground newspapers, The Rat was taken over in 1970 by a feminist collective, which moved the paper in a more extreme direction, including such topics as lesbian separatism, which was discussed in this late issue. Other contents in this issue include: reports on RAWF women’s action against Joe Namath’s NYC bar; a long discussion of non-cooperation with grand juries; Leslie Bacon’s news; lesbians and day-care; first person accounts of Westside Women’s Liberation Center; and warnings about Virginia Ruffalo as a possible security risk and police agent. Cover features a drawing of a woman’s head with flowers in place of hair, while back cover has a hand-lettered “birthday poem for Kathy Boudin.”
