Belle Moses was born in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated from Home College in Montgomery, Alabama. A prolific journalist and biographer, she contributed many stories to newspapers and magazines and wrote books in many genres, including the biography and the nove for which she won a prize offered by the Chicago Herald Record in 1896. Besides Alcott, subjects of her biographies included Franklin Delano Roosevelt; George Washington; Paul Revere; Robert E. Lee; and Charles Dickens.
