Ministers on Votes for Women.

Blackwell, Alice Stone. Flyer: "Ministers on Votes for Women According to Mrs. Howe's Census of Clergymen in Equal Suffrage States.” New York City: National American Woman Suffrage Association, [c. 1913].

Flyer: 7 x 6-1/4"; printed on both sides; crease to upper right corner; edgewear along left margin; touch of browning to upper left corner; about very good.

Clergy traditionally opposed woman suffrage, but here Blackwell records that shortly before her death Julia Ward Howe polled Episcopal, Presbyterian, Congregational, Methodist and Baptists clergymen and ministers on the issue. The handbill states that 516 of 624 answers favored votes for women. OCLC shows 2 holdings.
