Le Poete Renee Vivien, corrected typescript. (with 8893)

Corrected Typescript Of An Unpublished Essay

[Barney, Natalie Clifford]. La Poète Renée Vivien. Evolution d’une sensibilité. Ca. 1925.

8vo.; fourteen leaves; rectos only; ink annotations throughout; creased. In a specially made cloth slipcase.

Together with:

Printed invitation. To a party at Barney’s home on the rue Jacob in Paris; and its original envelope, addressed to “Monsieur Edouard [ ].”

This corrected typescript of an unpublished essay, in French, was written around 1925, sixteen years after Vivien’s suicide. With Barney’s emendations throughout the text, and with a penultimate paragraph added in her hand.

In this essay on the work of her former lover, Barney explains Vivien’s poetic sensibility; at the beginning, for example, she writes that Vivien’s poems were inspired by her perversity for satisfying a need for personal suffering. She also intersperses portions of Vivien’s poems throughout the text.
