Copies of certificates, recording Rothbarth's appointment to various posts. Each of the three giving typed extracts of minutes, and each 1p., foolscap 8vo, on an ornate letterhead. Item Twelve is dated 27 July 1912, 'At the Council Chamber Whitehall', and records her promotion from 'Assistant Manager acting as Secretary to Juvenile Advisory Committee, to be Secretary of Local Juvenile Advisory Committee in London at a salary of #150 per annum, rising by #5 annually to #200 per annum.' Item Thirteen, dated 5 December 1916, again 'At the Council Chamber, Whitehall', records her promotion from 'Secretary to a Local Juvenile Advisory Committee to be an Assistant Organising Officer, at a salary of #150 per annum rising, provided her service is approved, by #7. 10s. annually to #200 per annum.' Item Fourteen is dated 20 September 1917, from the Ministry of Labour, Whitehall, and records her promotion from 'Assistant Organising Officer, to be a Minor Staff Officer at a salary of #200 per annum rising, provided her service is approved, by #10 annually to #300 per annum.' FIFTEEN. Form (2pp., foolscap 8vo) from the Civil Service Commission, London, dated 4 August 1914, directing Rothbarth to 'call upon Dr Mary Scharlieb of 149 Harley Street, W. for examination as to the state of your health'. SIXTEEN to TWENTY-ONE. Six typed letters signed (totalling 6pp., 8vo) to Rothbarth from various government departments, written between 1910 and 1916 regarding her employment, four of the five civil servants being: Walter J. Howell (a long letter, on behalf of the Board of Trade, 9 March 1911, offering her 'an appointment as Assistant Manager in charge of a Juvenile Section of a Labour Exchange', and describing the terms of employment); William Nash (Board of Trade, Westminster); M. E. Marshall (London Juvenile Advisory Committee, Labour Exchanges, Westminster); H. B. Clark (Board of Trade, Central Office for Labour Exchanges and Unemployment Insurance, Westminster). The fifth name is illegible. Three of the letters are accompanied by their envelopes. TWENTY-TWO to TWENTY-FOUR. Three autograph drafts of an account by Rothbarth of her family and career. Item Twenty-Two headed 'Alice Rothbarth born London 1882'; Item Twenty-Three headed 'Alice Rothbarth - born August 3rd. 1882 London'; Item Twenty-Four headed 'Alice Rothbarth - born London 1882'. TWENTY-FIVE. Autograph account by Alice Rothbarth's brother Captain Herbert Rothbarth, Royal Engineers, of his military career during the First World War. 5pp., 12mo. On letterhead of 30 Quex Road, West Hampstead, NW6 (his home and hers). Incorporated in Items Twenty-Two and Twenty-Four. TWENTY-SIX. Autograph Letter Signed ('F.') from Alice Rothbarth's father Justus Rothbarth. Summerhill House, Tunbridge Wells; 30 July 1918. 2pp., 8vo. Providing her with autobiographical information incorporated in Items Twenty-Two and Twenty-Four. Begins: 'My dear Alice | We are a much governed race! Here is a letter from Dolls to pay for the war, & one from you on the subject of winning the war - vide Lord Beresford & other Albert Hallits. | As far as the latter is concerned you know I have no secrets & if necessary my bones & marrow are ready for inspection.' The rest of the letter, giving biographical information, is divided into seven numbered sections. TWENTY-SEVEN. Autograph Note Signed by 'E. F. R.', dated 4 September 1918, to 'Miss Durham'. 1p., 12mo. Reads: I have extracted all relevant facts from the attached documents, and I have arranged that you will see the statement put up by the Dept. in Miss Rothbarth's case before it goes to the Commee'.
