Rough Proof Copy Of The First British Edition
Of The Diary Of Anne Frank

[Frank, Anne. The Diary of a Young Girl. Translated by B.M. Mooyaart-Doubleday. With a foreword by Storm Jameson. London: Constellation Books, (1952)].

Small, thick 8vo.; frontispiece photo of Anne Frank; with 5 other illustrations, including interior and exterior views of the attic and other visuals relating to Frank and her diary; interior fresh and bright; brown paper wrappers, with a few chips to the corners, not affecting text; stamped “Rough Proof” on the front cover and on the title page; with previous owner’s signatures on the first blank. In a specially made quarter-morocco slipcase.

Rough proof copy of the first British edition of Anne Frank’s diary; so stamped on the title page and on the front cover. The true first British edition was brought out by the same publisher later that year. The first book-length publication of The Diary of a Young Girl appeared in Holland in 1947; the U.S. edition followed, as did the British edition.

This rough proof documents the stages involved in the publication and publicization of Anne Frank’s life, one of the most important female diaries of any century and a hallmark in Holocaust literature.
