A presentation copy, inscribed to a Greenwich Village friend and neighbor: For Pauline [Turkal] With The Affection of the Author, Djuna New York 1962. We have been unable to locate Turkal, but it is clear from the tender tone of the inscription and Barnes’s unusual signature of only her first name that she and Pauline were exceedingly close.
