Why Women Should Vote.
Addams, Jane. Small Pamphlet: "Why Women Should Vote.” New York: National American Woman Suffrage Association, [ND, but c. 1912].
Pamphlet: 3-1/2 x 6", 20 pp.; gray stapled wrappers printed; some dustiness; "5 cts" in pencil at the front wrapper; very good.
First edition thus, originally printed in The Ladies Home Journal. As first vice-president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (1911-1914), Jane Addams spoke and wrote on behalf of enfranchisement. In 1911 she wrote a widely read article on woman suffrage, arguing that women needed the vote to protect their families and their homes. This small booklet is one of the many forms in which the NAWSA reproduced this influential piece. (See Franklin, p. 144 and Krichmar 1405. NAW I, p. 20.)
