Votes for Women! The Woman's Reason Because.

[Suffrage]. National American Woman Suffrage Association. Handbill — Votes for Women! The Woman’s Reason Because. New York: National American Woman Suffrage Association, [ND, but c. 1910].

Handbill: 7-1/4” x 10-7/16”, printed black on light brown paper; lower right tip lacking (about 1/4” - not effecting text); short closed tear at top edge; generally very good.

One of the “Rainbow Series” issued by the Association. Here the handbill lists ten reasons why women should have suffrage; each reason is followed by the words: “They should vote equally with men.” The handbill sums up its arguments by saying “Because — Women ought to give their help. Men ought to have their help. The State ought to use their help.” During the last push for suffrage, the NAWSA became more skilled in creating and using effective handbills and broadsides to make their arguments. Apparently produced in great numbers and intended for distribution at meetings and rallies, these handbills have been subject to great decimation. Those that do survive eloquently reflect the tone of the movement during the years before its long- sought goal was won. (Franklin, p. 177)
