NAWSA Check Signed by Susan B. Anthony

[Anthony, Susan B.] Signed bank check, from the National-American Woman Suffrage Association, filled out in treasurer Harriet Taylor Upton’s hand and made payable to publisher A.J. Ferris for “5000 “bulls” for Convention” in the amount of $12.00; signed by NAWSA President Susan B. Anthony, Secretary Alice Stone Blackwell, and Treasurer Harriet Taylor Upton, December 29, 1899.

Single leaf; 2 ½ x 6 ¼ inches.

Alfred J. Ferris was a Philadelphia printer and publisher and this check was perhaps paid for work completed in preparation for the National-American Women Suffrage Association’s upcoming Thirty-Second Annual Convention, scheduled for the following February in Washington, D.C.

Ferris published The Ballot and the Bullet for NAWSA in 1897, a tract that appears to have been reprinted in 1900. His other publications relating to the suffrage movement include Proceedings of the Twenty-eighth Annual Conference of the NAWSA (1896), Women in the Early Christian Ministry (1897) and Speeches on Rights of Women (1898).
