First Edition, inscribed by the author in ink on free front endpaper: To Helen McCaffrey / Loyal friend and wise adviser / from her admiring client / Annie Nathan Meyer. While we can find no information on Helen McCaffrey, she may well have been Meyer’s literary agent.

The Dreamer is a three act play set in New York’s art world of the early 20th century and covers a time span of two days. Meyer had been writing art reviews for several national journals – including the prestigious Century Magazine for several years – and she wrote as an intimate of the New York-London art scene. Although several of Meyer’s plays were chosen for Broadway and amateur productions, The Dreamer was never produced on a professional stage.
