Vindication of the Rights of Woman, A.

Wollstonecraft, Mary. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. With Strictures on Political and Moral Subjects. Dublin: James Moore, 1793.

8vo.; discreet ownership signature to title page; Dublin book dealer’s stamp to front endpaper (J.J. Gorry); two bookplates to front pastedown (Pamela Lister and Monica & Norman Ewer); light foxing to endpapers; contemporary mottled calf boards; neat modern reback in blind-ruled calf with morocco gilt label. In a specially made quarter-morocco slipcase.

First Irish edition, with the printer’s erroneous line of type “End of the First Volume” excised from foot of final blank leaf. The rarest of the 18th century editions: produced for the first true colonial audience, it is unlikely that more than 250, or perhaps 500 copies were printed. This edition is scarcer than both the American and British edition: it is only the second copy we can trace in commerce in 25 years. Windle A5e.
